Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Zhukov visits New Zealand

 

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Zhukov has been to New Zealand for a working visit on 8 – 16 September 2011.

During the visit Mr Zhukov had meetings with the Rt Hon John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Rt Hon Dr Lockwood Smith, Speaker of the Parliament, Hon Murray McCully, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and New Zealand veterans of the Arctic Convoys.

He also had talks with the New Zealand Olympic Committee, resulting in the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Russian Olympic Committee and the New Zealand Olympic Committee.

On 13 September the Embassy of the Russian Federation held a formal reception, attended by representatives of the Parliament, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, International and National Olympic Committees, Arctic Convoys veterans.

Mr Zhukov was an honorary guest at the Rugby World Cup Opening Ceremony in Auckland as well as at the rugby match Russia vs USA in New Plymouth on 15 September. (It was for the first time that the Russian team participated in the Rugby World Cup). In New Plymouth he also met with the board of the leading New Zealand dairy company “Fonterra”.
